On February 01 2017, a public event was held in the Public Library of Juraj Šižgorić in Šibenik within the project “Education for Citizens – Citizens for Social Development and Solidarity”.
The event was organized in collaboration with the local association TRIS following the activities of the IPA GOO project. During the event, the project results were publicly presented, as well as the activities of local initiatives that have worked on solving problems in the local communities during the 16 months of the project. As the Municipal Development Plan was identified as one of the major problems in the city of Šibenik, the present speakers held a discussion on the issues of urban space planning.
Space is one of the most significant resources that we as a society still have and this value and its management should be matter of the public debate. Spatial planning regulations and compliance with these regulations are a key factor for the common future of all citizens of Šibenik. However, as the speakers stated themselves, an open question remains whether the spatial planning regulations should be adopted ad hoc, depending on the current needs of potential investors or political interest groups; or whether the obligation of all stakeholders who decide on the purpose and use or protection of space, must be to respect the Development Strategy as a key document on which all further spatial plans should be based?
Professionals addressed this as well as other related issues of concern during the public event and tried to respond to citizens’ inquiries; and to establish a communication channel between the city administration and the public concerned.
The organizers of the forum were the Human Rights House Zagreb and the Association / Web portal TRIS, together with speakers:
Diana Magdić, sociologist, The Association Teserakt, Split,
Dragan Žuvela, President of the Association of Architects Split,
Dario Crnogaća, President of the Association of Architects Šibenik,
Dražen Hoffman, GONG, Zagreb
Representatives of the City of Šibenik and the Šibenik-Knin County
We would like to thank the TRIS Association for the photographs and for their cooperation in the organization of this event.
